your Ideas are very witty and sometimes pinch the exact nerve. I agree with u on hazaro khwaish... although not entirely abt the mumbai shanghai makeover extravaganza.

hi vivek...hoping you would read this..coz there seems to be no other way to access you!!

well..the mumbai makeover post was i agree a bit of an emotional outburst...

all that i was trying to say was that...the fact that more than 60 percent of our city's population lives in slums is indicative of the imbalance in the way we have grown as a state...also as a country...it means that 60 percent (a large number of these are migrants from Maharashtra itself) of the population of this one city (the commercial capital of the country) is not even included in any discussion for the makeover that is being planned for the city...first of all they are here living in inhuman conditions only coz the state failed in its duty to provide them employment ..in other words...an opportunity for a better way of life...and equality of opportunity is a right (if i remember the constitution right)...

you are not going to do away with poverty by demolishing the homes of the poor...you will only hide it away from your eyes so that you don't see it and feel miserable about your own failings...and by no stretch of my imagination does doing away with poverty mean doing away with the poor...(which is quite literally what is happening now)...

And vivek...where do you think our car mechanics, domestic help and a number of our hawaldars and other 'insignificant' people who do odd jobs live? they live there only coz they cannot afford any other place in the city...

and by the way when the chief minister says that there is a strain on our resources (water, electricity, etc..) do we ever question the usage of these resources by the people living in high rises? i am sure once we do that we will see where most of the wastage arises...

for me...a better life for 60 percent of this city which lives in desperate conditions is any day a priority over swanky hotels and pubs and multiplexes which about 30 percent of the population would be able to access....

p.s thanks for compliment!! (the witty bit) do respond...you can send me your argument on iyervibha@yahoo.com

pps: i am yet to figure out a way of customising my blog to include my email id.

ppps: so how long have you been accessing my blog? who are you?
