second semester in full flow...
and...the happiest part of me at Gokhale are my multicoured- socks- wearing feet!!
... as i set torturous goals for myself...(taking up econometrics again!!) i can't help but admit that classes that are filled with discussions of political economy are most disappointing...
it just shows how theory can disconnect you absolutely from the world outside...and not just because we can't admit to the contradictions of the outside world, but because we'd rather be trapped in the comforting world of indifference curves and unrealistic budget frontiers...
have never felt more out of place...and my hitch is that i will begin to get used to feeling out of place and like remaining there...

I'd be happy contribute to your collection of multi-coloured socks!!
The world of theory is not comforting, precisely because of the existence of "real life contradictions"...
"Life is complex because it is part real and part imaginary."
I just heard today! ... so :)
yello shreya!!
so good to hear from you!!
it's comforting for most of my classmates coz' sometimes it's just about getting done with your master's with great scores...you kow..comforting coz you know the question and there is a precise answer to that...
discomforting for me coz' i am left bereft of perspectives...
acheck!!
so sorry but i don't think i will be able to make it for your wedding...i think i chose the wrong confidence interval when i told you i would be coming...
will have tests...will see you on the 24th!! congratulations and have a gorgeous wedding!!
:)
p.s as for that quote...thank god it's part imaginary...in fact i think i could spend the whole of mine in imagination!!
chk chk chk...still not understanding the mamoth importance of the indifference curves and budget frontiers... and stilll frustrating oneself with the others around and being derogatory towards their priorities (MA with high grades). What happens. they dont care about you, and here you are dedicating cyber cpace to them. great
Vibs, although someone's chest hair needs to be yanked, I must say I agree. Sometimes it is just about getting the marks.
And if you are expecting an MA to give you a perspective, you are no better than the marks-people...it takes a lot more (in my opinion) to get a perspective...
And more often than not, it will be a perspective more fundamental than, you know, private vs. public health care (a highly canadian example).
I hope you are getting me.
shreya and schazeb!
of course i am getting you...but having them in class means that you will not be allowed to ask questions in an applied paper like labour...
also it means that a lot of times...when the teacher is talking about empirical research, these reveal the contradictions of theory with ground realities...
i don't look down upon anyone's priorities...just that sometimes..people need to learn to give others' some space and grow up!!
i have no problem about it being just about marks...if that makes some people happy..so be it.just don't cross my space..that's all!!
well, it's just that a higher education helps you develop your reasoning ability (hopefully)
and that too is a matter of perspective...how you posit yourself when you reason...what are the assumptions you start out with...
